Business Information Systems (BIS)

Business and technology go together intrinsically. As businesses continue to improve their competitive advantage, information systems such as databases, web services and business applications are supplying strategic and operational opportunities for business leadership and decision-making.

You'll learn to harness technology to help organizations gain the right insights, improve operations, make the right predictions and achieve a competitive advantage in today's rapidly changing environment. You’ll study the fundamentals of business administration while learning to architect, manage, develop and deploy information systems.

Business information systems is an exciting and competitive field, with high salary potential and expanding job prospects. Examples include jobs as a business process analyst, IT project manager, data modeler, systems analyst, developer or database administrator (just to name a few).

Some graduates specialize in BIS aspects of another business discipline, for example, accounting, management, marketing or finance.

Business information systems is a major program of study offered in Corvallis and online through Ecampus.

MECOP: Oregon’s leading internship program

MECOP is a prestigious, paid internship program started with a few industry partners and OSU, and soon expanded to include internships with multiple Oregon universities and additional industries such as Daimler, Boeing and many others. If selected for the MECOP program and placed into an internship, your developing business information systems skills will be in demand — and put to the test!

After a competitive interviewing process, you'll complete two six-month internships with two different MECOP companies located throughout Oregon, typically during summer and fall terms of your junior and senior years.
